The 60-Minute Practice Blueprint

Stop wasting time on the range. Practice with intent.

The average amateur golfer goes to the driving range, buys a large bucket of 100 balls, and hits them all with their 7-iron and driver in 45 minutes. They do not pick specific targets. They do not go through a pre-shot routine. They just rake and hit.

This is not practice. This is exercise.

To lower your handicap, you must simulate the cognitive load and physical pressure of an actual round of golf. This 60-minute routine is designed to do exactly that.

Block 1: Wedge Calibration (15 Minutes)

Do not stretch by hitting a driver. Start with your wedges. The goal here is not full swings; it is distance control.

  • Balls 1-5: 50 yards (Use your Sand or Lob wedge). Attempt to land all 5 balls within a 5-yard radius of your target.
  • Balls 6-10: 75 yards (Use your Gap or Sand wedge).
  • Balls 11-15: 100 yards (Use your Pitching or Gap wedge).

Check: If you cannot consistently hit these numbers, use our Wedge Calibration Protocol to build a clock-system swing.

Block 2: The Iron Gauntlet (25 Minutes)

Now we apply pressure. You are going to hit 9 approach shots. You must change your club and your target for every single shot.

  1. Pick a target at 150 yards. Go through your full pre-shot routine. Hit the shot.
  2. Pick a target at 170 yards. Full routine. Hit the shot.
  3. Pick a target at 130 yards. Full routine. Hit the shot.

Repeat this sequence three times. Grade yourself. A shot that lands within 10% of the distance (e.g., 15 yards for a 150-yard shot) is a pass. Anything worse is a fail.

Block 3: Pressure Putting (20 Minutes)

Leave the range. Go to the practice green. Do not drop three balls and hit 30-footers.

  • The 3-Foot Circle: Place 4 tees in a circle, 3 feet around a hole. You must make 25 putts in a row. If you miss, start over at 1.
  • The Lag Drill: Hit 5 putts from 40 feet. Your goal is to leave all 5 within a 3-foot radius of the hole.

Why This Works

On the golf course, you never hit the same club twice in a row (unless you just hit one out of bounds). You have 5 minutes between shots. The rapid-fire "rake and hit" range mentality destroys your ability to focus on a single shot. This structured practice forces you into a "play box" mentality.
